Dermatan sulfate (DS), also named chondroitin sulfate B (CS-B), exists in skin, blood vessels, heart valves, tendons and lungs.
Dermatan sulfate is a potential impurity produced when extracting crude heparin. Dermatan sulfate must be removed from heparin API.
